About Us…

Who we are…

Brook Park was created in 1979 from a series of vacant lots acquired by the city as a part of the South Bronx Neighborhood Open Space Development Project. Friends of Brook Park (FoBP) is a grass-roots group that administers the community garden located at 141st and Brook Avenue in the South Bronx, NYC.

The Friends of Brook Park Community Garden is an oasis in a landscape of filled with concrete, bricks, and asphalt. FoBP focuses on getting the community back in touch with the land via organic urban agriculture, the arts, and culture.

What we do…

At the park, community leaders and volunteers engage youth and adults in various activities and programs that seek to convey a deep respect for the natural world. In addition, are driven by and strong advocates for environmental and racial justice, waterfront access and green space development. Brook Park has served as a meeting and event space for many local organizations and community-based groups.

Friends of Brook Park has led shore clean-ups and offer canoe and kayak introductions to the Harlem River and Bronx Kill and conducted eco-education tours as far north as the Hudson River and to the southern end of Randall’s Island and beyond. We work with numerous local organizations and schools and have helped launch the Harlem River Working Group.
